This masterpiece painting of Sheikh Lotfollah mosque is painted on camel bone. The painting is done with a great attention to the details. The whole dome is done with dots of a brush that has a single hair at the tip.
This mosque is one of the masterpieces of Iranian architecture that was built during the Safavid Empire, standing on the eastern side of Naqsh-i Jahan Square, Esfahan, Iran.
The painting is done with natural and mineral colors such as Saffron, Walnut skin, Turquoise etc.
The frame is wooden base and is decorated with Persian inlaid work which is an antique technique of decorating furniture and decoration in Persia. Its composed of tiny pieces of Camel bone, Colored wood and metal which is usually brass for its golden effect, the process starts by cutting precisely and rubbing skillfully the materials into tiny triangular forms and then attaching these pieces together to achieve a geometrical shape which is called a flower then these flowers are all attached together to form a longer stick of the flowers and then they are attached on the surface of wooden base frames or furniture and at the end a layer of varnish is applied to the surface for a final finish.
